Exhibition: "Work & Play: The Factory Way" (Tue-Thu and Sat)
Yate Heritage Centre
This exhibition runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 3rd December 2024 - 2nd February 2025
This December, Yate Heritage Centre presents ‘Work and Play: The Factory Way’, a new exhibition that celebrates the rich social lives of the Station Road factory workforce.
Currently known as Beko Europe, the site in Yate opened in 1917 as No 3 Western Aircraft Repair Depot, and has since been known as Parnalls, Jacksons, Creda, GDA, Indesit, Merloni and Whirlpool.
The exhibition at Yate Heritage Centre will run from 3rd December 2024 – 2nd February 2025, featuring a range of photographs, artefacts and oral history recordings, that tell the stories of the people who worked and socialised at the factory, alongside their families and friends, who fondly remember the sports clubs, dances, birthday parties, skittle tournaments and children’s Christmas lunches!
Do you have a story to tell, photographs, or items that capture memories of the factory’s social scene? Contact our team at Yate Heritage Centre, or fill in our survey on yatetowncouncil.gov.uk (search “Work & Play”) to help us celebrate the generations of people who worked at the factory, during its 107-year lifetime.
If you have any questions or offers of items for donations/loan relevant to the exhibition, please contact Yate Heritage Centre on 01454 862200 or email below.
