The Story of Our Barn: Medieval to Modern

Winterbourne Medieval Barn

How and when was Winterbourne Medieval Barn built? Why is it so important? Who was Thomas De Bradeston?

Come and find out all about the history of Winterbourne Barn and neighbouring St Michael's church in our new presentation for 2024. Discover what was happening in England during the turbulent 1300s when the Barn was being built. And hear the fascinating story of how this historic site was almost lost, how and why it was saved, and how it is used today.

The morning includes an illustrated talk on the history of Winterbourne Medieval Barn, with a guide pointing out interesting features for you to look at, and then a visit to St Michael's church with its medieval wall paintings and sculptures. There is plenty of time to ask our tour guides questions and explore the Barn at your own pace.

Ticket price £7.50 includes tea/coffee and biscuits in the Barn. Free parking on site. Booking online is advised - see the Barn website.

Buses Y1 and Y2 (operated by First) run between Bristol and Yate along Winterbourne High Street half hourly. From George & Dragon or Park Avenue it is approximately a 10 minute walk down to the Barn.

Bus Y6 runs from Yate to Parkway Station and The Mall via Beacon Lane and the High Street. It is a 5 min walk along Church Lane from Beacon Lane.
