Talk: Follies of Bristol
Winterbourne Medieval Barn
Follies are weird bits of architectural fancy with no practical use, that are dotted around the area, some visible to the public on big estates, and some hidden away, built out of passion, eccentricity, or just to show off!
Jonathan Holt will take us on a wonderful tour of Bristol & South Gloucestershire revealing the stories behind the region’s many architectural follies. He is the author of Bristol & South Gloucestershire Follies, the result of numerous explorations, as well as books on Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset, and Gloucestershire. He is also a tour guide, and editor of Follies, the organ of the Folly Fellowship, a charity dedicated to their preservation and enjoyment (www.follies.org.uk).
As a true folly enthusiast, Jonathan Holt has built a shell house in his garden in Bath.
The bar will be open for refreshments from 6.30pm. Cash and card payments accepted. Free parking on site.
Tickets are £7.50. Book online direct on Ticketsource or via the Barn website. The talk will also be live-streamed on zoom - we will email you the Zoom joining link before 6pm.
The primary purpose of the event is to raise money for WMBT and to support conservation, management, maintenance and improvement of the WMBT site.
