Bat Walk with Drink and Nibbles

Winterbourne Medieval Barn

Join naturalist Ed Drewitt for an evening guided walk of around an hour and a half, followed by a drink and nibbles back at the Barn.

Dusk in late summer is a great time to look for bats such as pipistrelles feeding along local pathways and in the nature reserve. Ed will provide plenty of information on the walk, and will use a bat detector to show you how we can 'hear' the bats echo-locating. We will also be listening out for birds in the dusk chorus, and Ed will help with identification of their songs. Perhaps we may hear the hoot of a tawny owl as sunset approaches.

Ed Drewitt is a freelance naturalist based in the Forest of Dean, who for over 20 years has been showing people across the West the flora and fauna around them, and helping them spot and identify different species.

What to bring: outdoor footwear, suitable outdoor clothing, binoculars if you wish (but not essential as it will be dusk). Free parkng on site.

You will set off from the Barn at 8pm, and return around 9.30pm for a drink and nibbles which is all included in the ticket price. The drink from the bar is your choice of a small glass of wine, beer or cider, or fruit juice, tea or coffee. Alcoholic drinks are strictly for over 18s only and the Barn operates a Challenge 25 policy, so please bring ID with you wish to drink alcohol.

While you are enjoying drinks and nibbles there is further opportunity to ask Ed any further questions you have about local bats and birds. The minimum recommended age for this Bat Walk is 12 years. Booking is essential and numbers are limited. Tickets cost £20 including drink and nibbles. Please inform of any dietary requirements when you book.
