Shrek the Musical
Winterbourne Community Centre
Wednesday 14 May to Sunday 18 May
7.30pm Wed-Fri, 2.30pm Sat-Sun
"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…."
Thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wise-cracking donkey and a feisty princess who resists her own rescue. Throw in a dictatorial baddie, a gingerbread man with attitude, and other fairytale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily there's one on hand.... and his name is Shrek.
The show has all the humour of the original film, with Lord Farquaad sending Shrek and Donkey to rescue Princess Fiona from her dragon-guarded tower, while dumping a crowd of fairytales characters in Shrek's swamp. But Farquaad's plan goes awry, and the story reaches its Happy Ending with the well-known Neil Diamond song "I'm a Believer".
Wednesday to Friday performances are at 7.30pm. Weekend performances are 2.30pm matinees. All tickets £15 are available from Ticketsource (booking fees apply), either online or by ringing 0333 666 3366.
The show is based on the Dreamworks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig, and this amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.
