Bloodhound STEM Quest

Abbotswood Primary School

Get Hands-On with Real Engineering Challenges.

Join us in a fun, inclusive environment where you can explore engineering at your own pace. Each session features a brand-new activity, so there’s always something exciting to build and learn.

No experience needed — just curiosity!

You can book a morning session, an afternoon session, or both — and enjoy a full day of hands-on, creative exploration!

Thursday 31st July 2025 - Making Energy
Discover the amazing ways we can generate energy using everyday items. From fruit-powered batteries to water-splitting experiments, learn how simple materials can demonstrate powerful science.

10 AM-12 Noon Powering Potatoes & other experiments:
Create a working battery using potatoes and lemons, and light up an LED.
Hydrogen is a promising clean fuel for the future—explore how electricity can be used to split water and produce hydrogen.
12.30 PM-2.30 PM Mini Wind Turbines:
Wind power is one of the cheapest and cleanest ways to produce electricity. A single wind turbine can power up to 1,500 households, typically lasts 20–30 years, and approximately 90% of its parts can be recycled. Build your own working wind turbine using simple craft materials and discover how wind energy can generate electricity.

Thursday 21st August 2025 - Rockets and Parachutes:
"Explore the science of speed and flight with rocket cars and parachutes in this hands-on STEM workshop.
10 AM-12 Noon Air-Powered Rocket Cars:
Learn about the jet engine and rocket technology in the Bloodhound 1,000mph Car. Design and build your own rocket car and race it to see the results.

12.30 PM-2.30 PM Indoor Rockets:
The Bloodhound Rocket Car is designed with a rocket to propel it up to 1,000mph. In this hands-on session, you will design and build an air powered rocket. Test it to see how many fins works best for your design and then launch it and see how high and far it will go along our test area.
